Marsala is the first town in the province of Trapani. The name was given by the Arabs who called Marsà ‘Alī (Port of Ali) or Marsà Allah (Port of Allah), from which derived the name of the city. Famous for the landing of Garibaldi and the Thousand on 11 May 1860 for its production of Marsala wine, for which, since 1987, is the City of Wine. Some of the most ‘important wineries in the area can be visited on request.
Mozia (or Mothia, Motya) was an ancient Phoenician city, located on the island of San Pantaleo, in the Marsala Lagoon. The island is located in front of the west coast of Sicily, between the Big Island and the mainland, and belongs to the Whitaker Foundation.
